I use Linux, but I have to use Windows apps every once in a while, like Word (when a publisher forces me to), IE (to test web pages), or Dreamweaver (when I teach web design classes). The best way I've found for running those Windows apps? CrossOver Office Standard, which is a modified version of WINE available for just $40. It won't run any ol' Windows program, but it will run the ones supported by CrossOver, and also some other unsupported apps. If you're not sure, install a program & see if it works.
PC World has a short article about CrossOver Office that introduces it and gives a couple of useful tips. Definitely worth reading.
