Region restrictions on DVDs serve no one's interests by greedy studios. Why shouldn't I be able to play an Indian DVD on my American DVD player? Or take my DVDs with me to play on my British cousin's DVD player? Ridiculous! If you want to end the tyranny of DVD region encoding, check out "How to make your DVD-ROM region free", which will walk you through the process. Just be careful: if you brick your DVD player, don't blame me, OK?

2. There's only one specific reason why the region codes exists... You can't sell the DVD in India at the same price as you sell it in the USA, because the life standards are so different (I don't know how much does a film on DVD cost in India, but probably it would cost only few dollars). They've put region codes so you can't buy a DVD from countries where you find it for cheap prices.

1. I have always thought about DVD regioun code as the stupid thing. This technique hasn't stopped piracy and the only effect it had is that I'm unable to watch DVDs bought in the other countries on my DVD player. I'm learning foreign languages, so I often buy DVDs abroad.
